The Brownie camera democratized photography and revolutionized global documentation. It brought about a ‘snapshot’ style that was decidedly less formal and staged than previous portraiture and emphasized subjectivity and personal expression of unique individual perspectives.
These images are my interpretation of this style, capturing the people and sights of Kerala, India, using whimsical angles and prioritized light and shadows. Shot on Hasselblad and hand-developed.
In conjunction with Small Box / Big World.
